Introduction

“Elbow Hou Bei Emergency Prescription”, an ancient book of traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions. It is the first clinical first aid manual in China. Monograph on Traditional Chinese Medicine Therapeutics. 8 volumes, 73 articles. Written by Ge Hong during the Eastern Jin Dynasty. The original name is “Rescue the Pawns Behind the Elbow”, and it is referred to as “Behind the Elbow”. The author compiled the original work “Yuhan Prescriptions” (100 volumes in total) by extracting practical and effective single-test prescriptions and brief moxibustion methods that can be used for emergency medical treatment. Tao Hongjing of the Liang Dynasty added 101 prescriptions, and renamed it “Buque Elbow Hou Baifang”. After that, Yang Yongdao in the Jin Dynasty extracted the single prescription from “Zheng Lei Materia Medica” as a supplementary prescription, named “Fu Guang Yao Hou Fang”, which is the existing “Yu Hou Bei Ji Fang”, referred to as “Yu Hou Fang”.

This book mainly describes the treatment prescriptions, acupuncture, external treatment and other methods of various acute diseases or acute attacks of certain chronic diseases, and briefly notes the etiology and symptoms of individual diseases. The descriptions of smallpox, scrub typhus, beriberi, and chigger mites in the book are all pioneers, especially the advocacy of using rabies brain tissue to treat rabies, which is considered the germination of Chinese immunization thinking. There are more than 10 versions of the book in Ming and Qing Dynasties. After 1949 there were photocopies and typographical copies.
