Chapter 1 Theory of Matter

1. On the Generation of the Universe What is Tai Chi? Tai Chi, the garden also. Infinity is called “too”, and infinitely small is called “extreme”. An infinitely large garden and an infinitely small garden have exactly the same properties. In other words, infinitely large things come from an infinitely small content, and the fusion of the two is called Tai Chi. The ancient Chinese sages believed that our universe had a beginning, and this beginning came from an earliest and most primitive “infinitely small pole”. They called this pole “Tai Chi”, “Tai Yi”, “Tai Shi”, “Tai Chu” and so on. From this pole, two worlds of yin and yang have evolved, and they are represented by a diagram, which is the Taiji diagram we are familiar with. (See “Tai Chi Picture”)
